.wednesday

middle of the week
and it feels like friday somehow.
i am also a bit weaklish
i think it is this weird weather.

but

i visited the library
one of the six (or five?)
of the
university of applied science

and it was a blast.

i have to point it out
again
i have never met nicer people
as those in all the libraries
here in turku.

i am always some kind of
an intruder/observer
[sometimes i do feel like that]
and everyone is welcoming me
always
and giving me all the insights
i would never get as a normal
patron or guest.
i am always welcomed as
one of them.
which is suprising and makes
the most fun of my staying
[also thank you finnish keybord
now i always tipe the "y" wrong!]

i do also meet a lot of
remarkable women!
[and also men]

so thank you very much
for today!
kiitos!

maeh sorry for the lack of photos
here are two
todays morning sun
and todays sunset
oh boy, i do adore weathersituations
way too much.

.hi monday

and i know
the posts are getting less
but
i had a visitor
therefore i was occupied

we went ice swimming with juha,
he also took us to russialo
on a very stormy saturday
[and i realised i have to go there again!
and for real this time]
we also went shopping,
we drank tons of coffe
and hot chocolate
and we ate way too much pizza

and everything without pictures
because my phone is slowly dying
and quitting his job
and my camera broke two weeks ago.

but we had a relly good weekend
(it made me miss home so much more!)

this week i am at the educarium
and it feels very familiar
i like it here,
very much.

and i am off to bookshelving

have a good start into the week!

.rauma

yesterday - tuesday
i went to rauma to see the
small university library which is a
part of the specific library anthropos
of turku university

since it is just for
teaching education the place
is really small but the more
nice and cosy
therefore tanja and leena
know almost every student by name
which is what i would call
the perfect customer service

tanja waited for me at the central bus station
and we took the 8 o clock bus

to arrive at 9:45 in rauma.

tanja and leena showed me
the whole library and also let me
work a bit at the service desk
and also do the finnishing on new bought books
(printing the signature, labeling the signatures
and barcodes and working the books into the
system (in voyeger))

in the afternoon tanja took me to lunch
and showed me a lot of rauma
the old wooden innercity

since rauma is the 3rd oldest town in Finland
and also by the sea
there are a lot of nice spots
and stories.

kiitos for having me tanja & leena!!!

.addition

juha is not only a really good
guide at castles and the city
he also knows the
best places.

so we were ice swimming with sauna
last sunday and afterwards
we went for a little stroll

kiitos juha!

.we were here

.i was in the water four times. i did not die. but 9 degrees are cold. a lot.

.this was on our stroll

.half time

yes, the first 4 weeks are done.
4 more to go.

and you know that i spent
the last week at Teutori
and i do still owe you pictures
there they are

i think that the library has a special charm
i loved it there
it is a really nice work environment
whit a lot of working spaces for the students
it is also worth a visit.

-

during my week a had a projet
to prepare a display cabinet / vitrine
with a co worker, sanna,
on Patrick Modiano, the Nobelprize Winner of 2014

here are a few pictures of that.
it was a nice work to prepare it and
to fill the vitrine.

.this is the finnished vitrine

so teutori was a lot of fun
thank you for having me!

.kiitos hyvää

after using this expression inflationary
as an upgraded thank you
therefore meaning thank you very much
i was told that i am using it wrong.
well i used it in several - all -
emails...
you only use this expression when
you are asked mitä kuuluu [how are you]
well i have learned something.
kiitos leena ;)

so this week is full of researching
i do so much research on patrick modiano
that i can finally remember his name
without a blink
and i also participated a research lesson
for med master students.
i still love those research guides!
they are of so much worth - they do all the work for you!

tomorrow we will finish the display cabinet
and i will make some more pictures
and i will also post them

i can only point out - again and always
that the staff[s] of all the libraries are
so so funny, nice and helpfull
i am very happy to be here
even though i am constantly freezin, ha.
but come on - it is now -3 degrees.
yes MINUS

nevertheless

hyvää iltaa
[no, i did not knew that, yes, i still have to look that up
poorly. i know]

.time flies

- and i am not really sure if this
common german expression also works
in english.

ha.

this week i am at the teutori library
which is pretty neat and i have
to make some more pictures
because it is brand new and located
at an old building which was
a shoe factory before.

i am doing all the smal works
like labeling books and journal folder
and getting to know the staff
which are all really nice and funny
everyone here is taking such good
care of me!

i am also doing a exhibition shelf
- well more a display cabinet
with sana, on patrick modiano
the nobel price winner.
that is a really nice work
we looked up all the books, the libraries
have in stock
and tomorrow we will be decorating
the cabinet
only the pictures are quite uneasy to find
because of the publishing rights...
i will show pictures when we are ready.

-

the weather changed a bit, it is getting
colder and i bought some sweaters
i am also counting days since i am
expecting a visitor. (actually two
and not at the same time, ha)

so far, i could not be happier.
always good days ahead.

ola hyvää.
nähdään.

.all the mushrooms!

yes. it took place.
and it was amazing!

i am going easy on the pictures. haha
so there are just a few...
i hope you enjoy them as much
as i did the kurjenrahka nationalpark

kiitos hyvää to the library staff!!!

those mushrooms in the basket
are not mine, but a few in the
pan are!

.third week

it is already wednesday or wet-ness-day.
its raining cats and dogs and i am crossing my fingers
because tomorrow should be a mushroom picking
with some of the library staff.
but if it rains, well than i will be very p - iiiiep.
fingers crossed!

so i spent the last three days
at juslenia, there at the department for
the FENNICA collection

those days were full of information
and also full of history lessons and also
full of books.
yay!
very old books!

FENNICA is called the collection
which is based on the donations from very
famous thinker and politicians
[for example a former president
mr. paasikivi, left his private library
to the university library of turku]
this is showen through his very own exlibris
every book from this collection has it.
but FENNICA is not only based on those
donations also
is the turku university library one of the
six national deposit libraries.
this means that everything [and weirdly
for real - everything]
which is printed within finnland has to
be given to those libraries.
for that turku university library has
one of the largest collections of books
and journals.
here is a nice link for more information

today i also learned what a incunable is.
it is a book which is printed before or
around 1450 -1500
yeah - i know!
and they have 17 of them.
it was a bit like christmas for me.
of course - there are pictures attached.

i also learned a lot about the history
of turku and finnland and its library history
because i think that panu turunen, who is
as special librarien of Fennica,
and alos a very versed and very well read man.
i am very thankfull for the last three days
which were a bit different, since everyone
is looking into the the future with all
those changes
but - sometimes there is a need
to also look back
and cherish the knowledge of others.

kiitos hyvää panu!

i should also mention that panu speaks
a hell good german, so i had the best
three days also in that way!

.there are so many exlibris to discover

.this is actually the most significant sign of an incunable

.this is a papyrus

.second week

so my week at the library of the
school of economics was
quite a accomplishment.
it was a lot of routine work,
circulation desk hours
[where i am not alone, since
finnish is the spoken language
but i tried to help as much
as i could]
and book shelving [obviously this
is a running gag]
and closed storage orders.

i trained a lot on the voyeger
library system. which is kind
of self-explanatory but still new
to me. so mostyl i try to observe
while being at the circulation desk.

i also participated in a staff meeting
on friday
where i could intruduce my
apprenticeship as a proffesional in
media and informationservices
via a power point presentation.
[boy was i nervous]
but it went well.
and afterwards juha hartikainen
went to the book fare with me.
that was a lot of fun.
mainly because there was also
a food fare - we tried all! the food.

and today we were at the castle
of turku, juha and me.
we had the best weather and so so
much fun!

kiitoy hyvää juha!

he is the best guide i could wish for
"this was a defence castle
not a party castle, the party castle
is further in"

enclosed i few picture i took
during this week.

hyvää sunnuntai.
